France, 1973<\/p>

In 1973, more bombs exploded in Corsica than in Northern Ireland. Political movements for autonomy were astir in all the regions of France that had maintained their cultural identity. The political centre had neglected economic investment in these areas, funnelling all funds to the classic areas of growth. The revolt against centralism was strongest in Corsica. The movement for regional autonomy demanded cultural and economic sovereignty in order to give the youth of Corsica job perspectives and a future on the island.<\/p>
